Who has not tried a classic American sandwich? Whether it is for children at children’s parties, or adults at dinner after a hard day’s work, the Grilled cheese Sandwich is always an option to satisfy that feeling of hunger thanks to its ease of preparation, it is fast, simple and extremely delicious.

History.
There are some versions similar to the Grilled Cheese Sandwich that have been found even in ancient Roman texts. But this famous sandwich was created approximately in the 20’s in the United States, thanks to the fact that in that period the first automatic bread slicer was invented thanks to Otto Frederick Rohwedder.
But this food was not so popular until World War II, when the cooks of the ships of the United States Navy received the cookbooks issued by the government where, according to the instructions, thousands of pieces of it were prepared. This was called «American Cheese Filling Sandwich».
Thanks to technological advances, individually wrapped slices of processed cheese called «Kraft Singles» were introduced to the market in 1949, making it easy to assemble this sandwich. Although the official name was received until the 60’s.
Recipe:
Today we can find on the internet or cookbooks, thousands of recipes similar to the original, or improved with other types of cheeses, special breads, sauces and dressings, including some more daring options that are cooked in different methods, either airfryer, electric waffle maker or in a simple frying pan with a little butter.
On this occasion we will be faithful to the original recipe, of course, always with a special touch that we like.
Ingredients:
Butter bread – 2 slices
Provolone cheese – 40 gr
American Cheddar Cheese – 40 gr
Butter – 5 g
Process:
Place the butter bread as a base, then place the slices of provolone cheese.
Followed by American cheddar cheese.
Put the second slice of bread to close the sandwich.
On a hot griddle or frying pan, place a little butter, once melted, add the sandwich and cook until it has a golden and crispy crust.
Remove the sandwich, add the rest of the butter and repeat the previous step on the other side.
Once it has obtained a golden color and a crispy crust has formed, remove from the heat.
Cut either in rectangles or in triangles according to the choice of each person.
Serve.
Additional:
This dish can be served with many options of sauces, dressings or accompaniments, the most traditional is with the famous roasted tomato soup, but we can always choose the children’s favorite, which is the french fries with ketchup sauce.
Or if we feel more fit, we can accompany it with a lettuce salad with arugula, beets and avocado.
No matter how it is served, it will always be one of the best options to eat at any time of the day.
